A Project Built on Partnerships
The Great Eastern Ranges Initiative is a concept bringing together people and organisations to focus efforts on establishing a conservation corridor along the 1,200 km New South Wales section of the Great Eastern Ranges. It is a project that will be improved upon over generations.
The Great Eastern Ranges Initiative is built on a foundation of community partnerships. It aims to raise community awareness and support, and connect landholdes with on-ground delivery programs using a variety of conservation mechanisms. It acknowledges the important role all landholders, catchment authorities, councils, government agencies, industries and the community have in conserving and managing our unique and rich biological diversity.
Regional Partnerships
In each of 5 Regional Partnerships a Facilitator brings together a range of local stakeholders, many of whom are already collaborating, to focus conservation efforts. The Partnerships are located in areas identified as priorities for improving overall connectivity of the Great Eastern Ranges. In these early stages this work has begun in NSW only.
As the model develops the Great Eastern Ranges Initiative will work towards establishing priority areas in Queensland and Victoria.
Priority areas operating in NSW are Border Ranges, Hunter Valley, Southern Highlands link, Kosciuszko to Coast, and Slopes to Summit (Albury region).
