Sharing News Within the Border Ranges
Once a year northern New South Wales hosts Australia’s biggest landcare education gathering. Big Scrub Rainforest Day is held annually in the Border Ranges region of the Great Eastern Ranges, attracting thousands of visitors over the past 10 years.
In September 2009 the Great Eastern Ranges Initiative supported the Big Scrub Rainforest Day, organised by the Big Scrub Rainforest Landcare Group, and attended by 2,000 people.
Staff from the Nature Conservation Trust of NSW – a lead partner in the Great Eastern Ranges Initiative – were on hand to talk to landholders and others about protecting the rich biodiversity of the Border Ranges. They described how conservation covenants help property owners to protect local habitats, and briefed visitors on the new draft Border Ranges Biodiversity Management Plan.
