Natural Highlights

Some people stop in the Southern Highlands just to visit the magnificent waterfalls! But explore a little further and you will find limestone caves, steep cliffs, Glow Worms and bushwalking tracks aplenty.

Waterfalls

Visit the easily accessible Fitzroy and Belmore falls in northern end of Morton National Park, or the untamed Carrington Falls in the Buderoo National Park.

Wombeyan Caves

Take guided and self-guided tours of these spectacular limestone caves, featuring vast caverns adorned with striking and delicate formations. You can also follow walking trails that lead to spectacular canyons, lookouts and waterfalls.

Cecil Hoskins Nature Reserve

Cecil Hoskins Nature Reserve is a birdwatcher's paradise. You can see over 90 bird species in this tranquil wetland, of which about a ⅓ are waterfowl. Platypi also inhabit this area.

Buderoo National Park

Buderoo National Park features the best examples of subtropical and warm temperate rainforest which once extensively covered the Illawarra region. Visit the award winning Minnamurra Rainforest Centre, have a picnic, or take a walk on one of the many accessible raised boardwalks.

We Love…

  • Glow Worm Glen at Bundanoon – take a walk into the gully to view this environmentally-friendly light show.
  • Nature at its best – with waterfalls, rainforest and wildlife so accessible
  • The heritage on display everywhere you go – with buildings dating back to the 1800s. The township of Berrima is a fine example of living history in NSW.
  • The gardens of the Southern Highlands – some of the finest in Australia.
  • The Bradman Museum of Cricket – a must for any sports buff.
  • Illawarra Fly Tree Top Walk – see the beauty of native flora and fauna from a new perspective. The 1,500 m rainforest walk includes a 500 m long treetop walk, providing a view of the Illawarra escarpment from 25 m above the ground.
