The 3 major towns of Batemans Bay, Moruya and Narooma are connected by coastal and rural villages, central to the region's strong rural heritage and Aboriginal culture, and reflecting a genuinely warm, authentic and relaxed community.

The towns and villages entertain a vibrant seaside café culture and renowned restaurants offering plenty of ways to enjoy seafood and regional produce. You’ll also find the work of local artists and craftspeople in galleries, emporiums and boutique shops, and at country markets.

Must-see attractions include Birdland Animal Park, Mogo, Mogo Zoo, Montague Island, Old Mogo Town and picturesque Central Tilba.

The spectacular views from headlands and the hinterland lend themselves to leisurely drives, short walks, longer hikes through the forest and mountains, and leisurely games on a unique golf course.

The region's many waterways can be enjoyed by boat, paddle steamer, kayak, surfboard or other watercraft – many tours, charters, hire options and lessons are available, making it easy to fish, to look and to explore all year round.

Natural Highlights

Clyde River

Snaking its way through national parks, this broad major river system hosts an array of activities – hire a boat, go fishing or waterskiing, or simply sit on the shore and relax at a family picnic.

Murramarang National Park

This park features beaches, rock platforms, Spotted Gum forests and rainforest gullies surrounding beautiful Durras Lake. Stay in a caravan, cabin or tent and enjoy everything the park has to offer – from walking and picnicking to swimming and fishing.

Montague Island

From the end of winter to early December hundreds of seals make their home on the island. It's also a breeding ground for 15 bird species – including about 8,000 pairs of penguins. Montague Island Tours, winner of the 2007 and 2008 Australian Tourism Award for Ecotourism, offers guided tours and overnight stays taking in the island's historic lightstation, Aboriginal heritage and remarkable plants and animals.

Eurobodalla National Park

Ocean beaches, Spotted Gum forests, wetlands and estuaries offer a variety of scenery and an important habitat area for waterbirds and threatened native animals such as the White-footed Dunnart. The Eurobodalla area also contains significant Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal cultural sites.

We Love…

  • Historic Mogo village and Old Mogo Town, a recreation of a gold mining village. Mogo Zoo hosts many endangered, rare and exotic species.
  • Overnight stays on Montague Island, where you have the opportunity to participate in conservation projects and contribute to the long-term protection of a Little Penguin colony.
