NSW contains over 780 National Parks and Reserves. Many of these areas contain the most majestic and biologically-rich landscapes in Australia, and many lie within the rugged mountainous landscape of the Great Eastern Ranges.

These landscapes include massive clifflines and escarpments, deep gorges, undulating plateaux, mountains up to 2,228 m high, hundreds of large waterfalls up to 240 m high, alpine and glacial features, karst landforms and caves, and the scattered remains of ancient volcanoes cloaked in a wide variety of natural habitats.
