Border Ranges

Overview

Northern Rivers CMAThe Northern Rivers Catchment Management Authority (NRCMA) engages and supports local communities in the sustainable use and management of the region’s natural resources. Our role is to help plan, fund and implement priority natural resource management projects and activities on private and public lands that protect and rehabilitate our native vegetation, soil and land resources, rivers coasts and marine environment. We work with individuals, community groups, industry and government.

The Northern Rivers CMA is not a regional water manager and is not an environmental compliance agency; however, our programs and projects complement the work of a range of other government departments in the natural resource management field.

What we do

nrcma-03The Northern Rivers Catchment Management Authority, on behalf of the Border Ranges Alliance (a network of NRM groups in the Border Ranges region supporting the Great Eastern Ranges initiative), as proponent is submitting an application to Caring for our Country for a package of activities in the region that will improve connectivity of Gondwana World Heritage Areas through on-ground works on private property, as well as engagement activities.

The primary target for the application is Managing World Heritage – Gondwana Rainforests of Australia (QLD and NSW) - Actions to minimise Bell Minor Associated Dieback, Mobilise landholders to improve connectivity in the landscape through implementation of vegetation corridors, and Engage with community and scientific/technical experts to obtain information to assist with the management of properties. Secondary targets are Increasing Native Habitat and Increasing participation in natural resource management.

All on-ground activities will take on private land in priority areas that are adjacent to WHA or are within rainforest climate change corridors (as per the BRRBMP) that clearly link WHAs.
