Overview
Location: Logan City Council and Scenic Rim Region Council Qld
The Logan and Albert Conservation Association:
- Plays an active role in the protection and enhancement of the environment with particular emphasis on the Scenic Rim Region, Logan City, and areas immediately adjacent.
- Promotes the concept of environmental sustainability as an essential criterion of planning for development.
- Informs the community on all aspects of conservation.
- Researches and reports on current and proposed activities likely to affect the local environment.
- Encourages the widest possible public consultation and informed debate on matters of conservation and environmental importance to the local community.
What we do
Members have attended Gondwana Rainforests of Australia formally CERRA (Central Eastern Rainforest Reserves of Australia) group meetings eg Richard Zoomers (Wild Mountains);- Members with prior experience in the Border Ranges area for example Ted Fensom;
- Revegetation projects at Mt Barney (Yellowpinch Reserve), Laravale and Veresdale Scrub (Bilarabyn);
- Conducted wildlife workshops and koala workshops in Scenic Rim Regional Council (few koala sightings recorded for Scenic Rim area);
- Public education displays about Veresdale Scrub and LACA projects, for example at the Beaudesert Show;
- Writing submissions in response to proposed development and infrastructure projects.
What we have achieved
- Submissions to state and local government in relation to regional planning and the South East Queensland Regional Plan (SEQRP).
- Revegetation projects at Mt Barney (Yellowpinch), Laravale and Veresdale Scrub.
- Community education at Beaudesert Show, wildlife workshops, koala workshops and Presentations to local councils, for example Logan City Council.
