Border Ranges
Overview
The Office of Environment and Heritage (OEH) is the NSW government environment and conservation lead agency. The Conservation Partners Program encourages conservation of significant natural and cultural heritage on private and other public lands across the state through Conservation Agreements and Wildlife Refuges established under the National Parks and Wildlife Act 1974.
The program provides establishment, ongoing monitoring and support to landholders and works in partnership with a range of government, non-government, community and industry organisations to deliver conservation projects and initiatives.
The program partners the Community Environment Network Inc supporting state-wide coordination and delivery of the Land for Wildlife Program, a non-statutory conservation property registration scheme.
What we do
The program focuses on establishing, monitoring and supporting protected areas on private and other public conservation priority lands across NSW which contribute to a Comprehensive, Adequate and Representative protected area system and complement core public reserves to strengthen connectivity and resilience. The Border Ranges is one focus area for program delivery.
What we have achieved
There are currently 267 in-perpetuity Conservation Agreements protecting more than 53,000 hectares of high conservation value private and public lands across NSW. There are currently 657 Wildlife Refuges protecting more than 1.93 million hectares of significant wildlife habitat. This core program continues its work in partnership with a range of organisations in priority areas of the state to deliver projects and initiatives on an ongoing basis.
