Overview
Brunswick Valley Landcare is a volunteer community organisation supporting Landcare & Dunecare groups and landholders in the Brunswick River Catchment of New South Wales.
Brunswick Valley Landcare Incorporated (BVL Inc) was formed in November 2003 as a non-political, not for profit organisation to help Landcare groups and landholders in the Brunswick River Catchment develop projects and apply for funds.
The role of BVL is summarised by its mission statement: Inspiring and supporting our community to conserve and restore Brunswick Valley's natural environment from forest to foreshore.
What we do
Help Landcare groups and landholders in the Brunswick River Catchment develop projects and apply for funds through advice, ideas and technical assistance.
Continuing to work with land owners and managers to identify areas of highest priority.
Building relationships between partners and the community, for example a partnership with Big Scrub Landcare group that resulted in on ground works on several properties as part of the Great Eastern Ranges Initiative project.
What we have achieved
- One success story is the Environmental Trust funding obtained to rehabilitate riparian vegetation along river and creek banks, providing nine sites with three years of funding. BVL currently manage another project funded by ET that is providing an educational program to Landcare members.
- BVL supports a local community officer providing more resources for the local community.
- BVL publishes a bi-monthly newsletter for members, available on this web site, as well as a regular on-line Enews. This website also provides a primary source of communication.
- BVL organises regular workshops and bushwalks to share knowledge with the wider community about our natural environment
- Other BVL activities include the very successful Brunswick Valley Nature Festival held in 2004, 2006, and again in 2008.
